Sawyer County Sheriff Doug Mrotek told Sawyer County Public Safety Committee members Thursday, Jan. 6, that a recently purchased full body scanner has detected illegal drugs coming into the jail on at least five occasions.
The body scanner was recently purchased for $206,500 with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to help with COVID concerns and also to keep illegal drugs out of the jail.
“It’s been very effective in detecting drugs,” Mrotek told the Record on Saturday, Jan. 8.
On Jan. 6, Mrotek was responding to a Jan. 5 article, “Drugs still getting into jail despite $206,500 body scanner” in which it was stated, “The scanner has been purchased and is being used, and according to the sheriff has caught contraband coming into the jail, but it hasn’t resulted in stopping drugs coming into the jail.”
