New technology can detect contraband at Contra Costa County jail

Sneaking contraband into the Martinez Detention Facility will become more difficult with new technology procured by the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office has acquired the Tek84 Intercept Full Body Scanner, which “detects both metallic and nonmetallic threats, including weapons, drugs, cell phones and other contraband,” officials said.

“Screens from below the feet to above the head reveal items under the clothing and within the body,” the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies can maintain a distance of 6 feet while conducting contraband searches.
