GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – A new safety device is now in place at the Marshall County Jail: a body scanner.
It will also be used by surrounding agencies in the county.
Deputies say contraband was running loose in the Marshall County Jail. Drugs and weapons are some of the common items inmates try to bring in.
Thanks to funding from the CARES ACT, the new body scanner is now installed to help prevent those items from coming inside the jail.
“We had nothing before and the only way we could detect contraband is by searches and in the jail setting you are not allowed to search body cavities. So there was stuff that came in that we couldn’t detect,” said Chief of Corrections Mat Cooper.
