JEFFERSON COUNTY — Drugs, cell phones and other contraband are common and constant concerns at county jails.
And, the Jefferson County Jail is not immune.
Sheriff Zena Stephens says sometimes inmates can manipulate the best of employees — even those with clean backgrounds — to do their dirty work.
The sheriff says two correctional officers have recently been caught bringing in contraband into the jail.
Administrators have also conducted surprise searches and found inmates in possession of illegal items, including drugs.
